Alain Briançon, PhD Electrical Engineering, MIT
Dr. Briançon is a technology visionary and strategic inventor with 25 years of expertise in wireless and semiconductor industries. He is responsible for NTERA's technology, engineering, and intellectual property strategy. He most recently served as CTO of InterDigital where he helped create and execute the company's technology roadmap, including leading its incubation efforts and university relationships. Previous to his experience at InterDigital, Dr. Briançon led several groundbreaking, multi-billion dollar initiatives at Motorola. He has also performed executive and technology functions with PageNet, BellSouth, and GTE Spacenet—all involving creation, development and marketing of wireless communications systems. Dr. Briançon has worked as a researcher for COMSAT and represented the United States to CCITT. He holds a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as well as a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a recognized industry commentator (e.g., 3GSM World Congress, IEEE conferences, NSF SBIR panel, twenty publications, co-author on a book) and a prolific inventor with twenty-one issued and seventeen pending patents.
Marsha Timmerman, Scientist & Professor, La Salle University
Ms. Timmerman is a faculty member at La Salle University in the integrated Science, Business and Technology Department. Since joining La Salle, she has been instrumental in designing and developing her respective Department. As part of this discipline, Ms. Timmerman is working to develop an entrepreneurial-ship program at La Salle. Prior to joining the La Salle faculty, she spent more than 14 years with biotechnology start-up companies. She was a founding scientist with Enzymatics, Inc., a medical diagnostics company and was an inventor of the QED® Saliva Alcohol Test, the company's only commercial product. After Enzymatics, she co-founded JWT, Inc., a sports medicine company that developed and manufactured LacTest®, a lactic acid test kit for endurance athletes. She served as president of JWT until its merger with Binax, Inc. Ms. Timmerman holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Zoology from Michigan State University and Rutgers University, respectively. Ms. Timmerman is a consultant to a number of small companies and assists them in getting products from development to market. She also serves as a technical reviewer for the Ben Franklin Partnership, Northeast Tier. Ms. Timmerman is a BuLogics investor.
Robert Zdancewicz, B.Sc., M.Sc.
Mr. Zdancewicz is the founding principal of IdeNovo Systems Inc., one of Canada's premier consulting firms with a specialty focus in Customer Management Solutions and Advanced Network Solutions. IdeNovo was founded in 1991 as GEOPOWER Technologies Inc. to provide GIS data conversion services to AT&T. Since its founding, it has evolved into an organization that offers "end-to-end" business solutions for the "e" business generation. In his 15 years plus of experience, Mr. Zdancewicz had developed and implemented complex business solutions for Marriott Hotels, Thomas Cook, Bell World, Sprint, Bank of Montreal, Clearnet, MaxLink, FedEx, and Virtual Broadcast Corp. He has developed web-enabled e-commerce solutions, a GIS application for Harris County, TX (www.hcad.org) and Greenwood County, SC. Mr. Zdancewicz is also a BuLogics investor.
Leland Maxwell, MBA Finance, Wharton
Mr. Maxwell has over 25 years of business experience, primarily in accounting and finance. He earned an MBA in Finance from the Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. from Williams College, cum laude. He has active CPA and CVA (Certified Valuation Analyst) licenses. Five years ago he founded Maxwell Consulting, which provides to growing companies outsource CFO Advisory services such as business plan review, financial and cash forecasting, budgeting, audit preparation, and valuation. His diverse client base includes alternative energy, manufacturing, software, biotech, dental products, and warehousing services. He currently acts as a part-time CFO for some of his clients. Prior to this, he was the CFO of a public company and a private company during which time he facilitated the growth of the businesses; helped raise debt and equity capital, implemented strategic and tactical business decisions, developed business plans, and helped execute an acquisition and joint venture. Earlier, he served as Corporate Controller of a $60 million private manufacturing company. He served
as Regional Controller, Divisional Manager of Accounting, and Plant Controller over 11 years with Smurfit-Stone (formerly Container Corporation of America), a multi-billion international paper and packaging company.
Martin E. Gilligan, Owner & Principal Consultant of Martin & Associates
Mr. Gilligan has held top-level corporate positions such as Director of Acquisitions, Senior Vice President of Marketing, and Vice President of International Operations with capital goods manufacturing companies ranging from $15M to $30M in sales revenue. He served on the Board of Directors for Small Enterprise Development Corp. and the CYBER Center small business incubator in York, PA. Mr. Gillian was also Chair of the Small Business Council, Harrisburg, PA, and was an original Board of Directors member for Control Techtornics, Inc. (a process controller start-up), and for MTCI, Inc. (a black-liqueur incinerator start-up). He has served as an Advisory Board Member for Advanced Ink, Inc.. (a color technology joint-venture start-up) and KYSU, LLC (a technology licensing start-up) among others. He is a founding Advisory Board Member of the South Central PA Ben Franklin Partnership Program and was Chairman of the Entrepreneurial Small Business Committee.
